Chemistry Ranks Top 3 Nationally

Congratulations to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry!

According to the 2011 publication by the Diverse Issues in Higher Education, Jackson State University ranks 3rd in Bachelors, 2nd in Master’s, and 4th in Doctoral degrees in Physical Sciences awarded to African Americans in the country.   Physical Sciences include disciplines such as Astronomy, Chemistry, Physics and interdisciplinary Materials Science.  JSU awards both chemistry and physics bachelor degrees, but only awards chemistry degrees on the Master’s and Doctoral levels.   These high rankings are a testimony to the quality of the chemistry programs and the effort of the faculty to nurture our students.  We believe that the high caliber of faculty, top nationally ranked research productivity, and excellent education and research programs are some of the key factors for the success.
