Home Program Abstact Goals & Objectives Application Faculty Mentors Research Projects REU Schedule REU Activities RET Contact Us | Applicants for the Summer 2010 Research Experience for Undergraduates at Jackson State University are anticipated to major in chemistry, biology, physics, civil and environmental engineering, etc. Students majoring in chemistry or biology are expected to have finished at least one semester of organic chemistry.The program will include round-trip travel, dormitory housing, and meal plan are provided for students in the REU program. In addition, students will earn a stipend of $3,500 for the ten-week period. Students' GPA in the major areas are expected to be 3.0 or above. The application package must include the following: Students are encouraged to fill out the application form as soon as possible to allow for tracking of application materials. All spaces must be completed. Download Application Form Order an official transcript from your university registrar and send directly to REU/Chemistry, PO Box 17910, Department of Chemistry, Jackson State University, Jackson, MS 39217. Letters should be from faculty or professionals who can assess your ability to do research. Download Recommendation Form Resumes should be one page in length. A statement of goals should be submitted on a separate sheet of paper, not longer than one page, and single spaced. Include your reasons for wanting to do research, how you feel this program will benefit you, and a list of three possible REU faculty members whose research interests you. Faculty research interests can be found at http://chem.jsums.edu/reu. These statements are very important to the selection process. Please be sure to have the two letters of recommendation, resume and statement of goals e-mailed to reu@chem.jsums.edu. All application materials must be e-mailed in Microsoft Word to reu@chem.jsums.edu by March 15, 2010. Students will be notified of decisions by email and mail on April 1, 2010. Students selected for the Undergraduate Research Program are required to complete ten weeks of research from May 30 to Aug 6, 2010, a safety lecture, participate in the summer symposium, attend summer speaker seminars, and participate in the Ethics Forum. |
